Adopt Lisa

Mixed Breed · Female

Age: around 2015. Gender: female. Weight: around 22kg. Compatibility: rarely. Specialties: Lisa belongs to the unadoptable ones from Martin Rütter. Illnesses: none known Lisa, our really awesome Mali-mix female dog. She's been with us for a long time. Her development here can only be described as "amazing." Where she used to not let anyone near her and would attack all other dogs, the first has notably improved. She loves her people and is incredibly loyal. She also accepts strangers much better and is generally much calmer. She wears a muzzle with us because dog encounters outside are not always joyful. In her individual training, she does well, and some dogs are now also simply accepted. The mistrust towards strangers is not so far that one can rely on her when someone new enters the room, but such situations can be approached a bit more loosely. Considering her background, this is a huge development. She arrived with her sister and knew nothing but a cannabis plantation and the garden shed where they lived. Human contact was almost non-existent and, when it was, not particularly positive. We've known Lisa for years, only lovingly. She willingly lets us do anything, whether it's a bath, nail care, vet visits, or cuddle attacks. 😊 Lisa has actually had the chance to spend a full weekend in a normal household a few times. She behaved excellently and caused no problems. The stay with her volunteer primary caregiver for an extended weekend in a vacation apartment also went without issues and was enjoyed by both sides. The little mouse could be described as everyday-friendly with some limitations. The training requirement for Lisa is very high, and this should not be underestimated or taken lightly. Not for nothing does she wear a muzzle here. Otherwise, she's a normal dog with plenty of potential for walks and engagement. But everything can, nothing must… cuddle, dog bed, and relaxation are at least as good.

Alter: ca. 2015. Geschlecht: weiblich.

About Lisa

What life with Lisa looks like

Lisa is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Emden in Emden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lisa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lisa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Emden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lisa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lisa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Emden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lisa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lisa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Emden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lisa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
