Lissy

Mixed Breed · Female

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Lissy is still a young female dog, who has her whole life ahead of her – and yet she has already endured more than many other dogs ever experience. Severely injured, she was found by our animal rescuer by the roadside – hit and helpless. Of course, she was immediately taken to a vet for examination and care. The diagnosis: a broken pelvis. Fortunately, this has now fully healed, and no operation was necessary. The early days were a significant physical and emotional challenge for Lissy. Due to the pain and her previous bad experiences with people, she initially reacted insecurely and would sometimes snap if everything became too much. It’s important not to forget: she had to endure touches and treatments, even though she didn’t yet know that people meant her no harm. But Lissy has learned. Step by step, she has come to understand that people can also mean love, safety, and cuddles. Today, she enjoys affection – when met with patience, calm, and respect. And because she is still so young, she has the best prerequisites to grow through many good experiences and strengthen her trust. In her, there is still so much potential; she wants to learn, discover, and simply belong. We are looking for a home for her with people who take her past seriously and can deal with it if she takes a small step back after this long journey into the unknown. She is friendly and social with other dogs and even cats. Lissy is a loving, young female dog who finally wants to arrive – in a home that offers her safety, understanding, and a lot of heart. Who gives this brave female dog the chance at a new, happy life? She will be neutered soon. Please note:

About Lissy

What life with Lissy looks like

Lissy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lissy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lissy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lissy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lissy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lissy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lissy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lissy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
