Little Joe

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Update 08/2024 Will the four brothers really grow up here at our shelter, confined to the enclosure? They are such loving, people-oriented guys, full of life, playful, and cuddly, a real enrichment for any family, single, or couple. They are not too big, just about 55 cm, slender, and active. They are searching so desperately for THEIR people, where they can give their whole love!!! Update 03/2024 Seven of the siblings are still with us at the shelter. Only two of them have already found their homes. All of them are extremely lovable, lively, and very playful puppy children. Why doesn't anyone give them a chance at their own home? It would be so wonderful for them! History: We were given a pregnant female dog to be neutered, who was very close to giving birth. We decided that it was too late to neuter her, as the puppies would likely have been viable if they had been "extracted." So, we let the little ones be born. Sure, not everyone sees that as right, but we couldn't reconcile it with our conscience to kill the puppy children through neutering. A few weeks earlier, there would have been no argument, but at this point? No! So, the dog mom gave birth to nine puppies in just a few days... All nine puppy children developed well. They have become a colorful bunch, a real razzle-dazzle. Since they had contact with humans from the very beginning, none of them show any fear of people. They are very playful, under each other's behavior is unobtrusive. Of course, there are the occasional sibling squabbles, but not to the point where it becomes dangerous. As the little ones are still in development, their characters are still forming, so it's too early to say much about how they might be later. Everything is still too early to give an account about. But so far, it shows that none of them are very fearful, shy, or overly bold in behavior. They are simply loving, friendly little puppy children.

About Little Joe

What life with Little Joe looks like

Little Joe is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Streunerfreunde e.V. / Streunerhilfe in Aschaffenburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Little Joe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Little Joe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Streunerfreunde e.V. / Streunerhilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Little Joe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Little Joe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Streunerfreunde e.V. / Streunerhilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Little Joe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Little Joe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Streunerfreunde e.V. / Streunerhilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Little Joe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
