Lizzie

Female · Young · 1 year

Lizzie has really been through it in her short life. She was found dumped in a box on a scorching summer’s day and shortly after managed to fracture her leg. Imposed crate rest has meant she hasn’t been exposed to things she should have at that vital age, and she is frustrated from lack of socialisation and the ability to explore. She has bags of potential and is still so young, and we’d love to find her a patient and confident owner who isn’t afraid of putting in some training with Lizzie. She has already made great progress with her handlers and support will always be available from the team at the centre. Lizzie gets overwhelmed easily and she barks or grabs clothing as an outlet for this. Ideally, she would live in a quiet home that has few visitors initially, away from main roads and too much stimulation. Lizzie loves running around now she’s all healed and enjoys playing with toys. Toys will be vital to her training as this gives her a more appropriate thing to use her mouth on! She struggles to contain herself around other dogs, she has friendly intentions but just doesn’t know what to do with herself when she meets them. She’s absolutely not in a position to live with another dog right now but we are working on introducing her to dogs that don’t react back to her so that we can start to build her social skills. Due to her training needs, Lizzie will need a quiet home with minimal visitors and in a quiet area. Her new family will also have to make several visits to Lizzie at the centre so help the transition in to home life be as smooth as possible. Lizzie has had a hard time and needs a family dedicated to her training. A pet and child free home is essential, but she can live with anyone over 16. She will need help with house training and not to be left alone for any length of time. Following a fractured leg as a pup, Lizzie needs some minor daily pain relief.

About Lizzie

What life with Lizzie looks like

Lizzie is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lizzie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lizzie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lizzie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lizzie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lizzie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lizzie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lizzie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
