Adopt Loco

Male · Adult · 8 years

I am Loco and I am looking for my new home. I was born on May 4, 2018, and I am a proud X-Herder with dark, flowing fur. As a large and strong dog, I need plenty of space, exercise, and people who have time for me. Unfortunately, I am searching for a new home because my owner, due to moving into a smaller apartment, financial reasons, and the family no longer living together, can no longer provide the space and environment that I, as a large, active dog, require. For my sake, a loving home is being sought where my needs can be met. I grew up in an eight-person family with children and am familiar with people of all ages. As a loyal farm and family dog, I am watchful, protective, and reliable. At the same time, I am playful and enjoy life: I love playing ball, long walks, and on warm days, I love going into the water to cool off. Due to my heritage—my mom participated in championships and my dad was a working dog—I have a strong prey drive. Therefore, I wish for experienced, active people who can provide clear leadership, sufficient exercise, and mental stimulation. A home with lots of space, ideally in a rural area, would be perfect for me. My owner wants to avoid at all costs having me go to the animal shelter. You are very welcome to visit me and get to know me personally. Location: Velpke Contact: I look forward to meeting you.

Standort: Velpke Kontakt: Ich freue mich darauf, dich kennenzulernen. Dein Loco

About Loco

What life with Loco looks like

Loco is a large adult dog waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
