Adopt Loreta

Unknown · Senior · 11 years

A sweet old soul looking for love! Loreta is a mixed-breed dog of large size, derived from maremmano, born in April 2015, arrived at the dog shelter in 2022, despite her age and her difficulties that make it hard for her, when you caress her, her eyes shine with gratitude and her heart beats strongly for those cuddles that she loves so much. Despite the years that weigh on her legs, she has an infinite love to give, and she needs only one thing: someone who is willing to be by her side, to welcome her and to give her the warmth that she so deserves. She doesn't have as much energy for walks anymore, but she still has a heart full of affection, and with a little patience and a lot of tenderness, she will give you the most sincere love you can imagine. A patient person is needed for her, who knows that every day is a gift and that the value of a caress or a cuddle for an old dog can be worth more than a thousand runs in the park. A quiet home, a corner where she can rest in peace, and lots of affection are what she needs. If you have space in your heart for a soul that needs to be loved, then she is the dog you are waiting for. There is nothing greater than giving a second chance to an old dog. She will give you unconditional love, made of sweet and silent moments, but always full of a unique beauty. Loreta is located in a private affiliated dog shelter in Basilicata and we place her both in Lazio and in the north, after the necessary pre-adoption home checks, vaccinated, spayed, tested for leishmaniasis and obviously with a microchip.

About Loreta

What life with Loreta looks like

Loreta is a large senior dog waiting at Associazione ALFA in Roma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loreta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loreta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associazione ALFA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loreta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loreta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associazione ALFA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loreta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loreta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associazione ALFA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loreta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
