Adopt Lory in Portugal

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Gender: female/neutered Age: born August 2019 Location: Shelter/Portugal Compatibility with others: Social Special needs: Lory suffers from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency Lory suffers from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, which is well managed thanks to a strict diet and daily medication. Our Lory has a wonderful personality: she is gentle, loving, and curious. She greets all people calmly and likes to walk beside them. She loves being brushed. Lory is very curious and likes to look out of windows and doors to catch the attention of the shelter visitors. She walks problemlessly on a leash in the shelter. On a leash, she greets other dogs friendly and trusting. She has not been tested with other dogs on the training field without a leash, but this can be done if interested. Who will give this loving female dog a home where she can finally arrive? It should be noted that every shelter dog, especially considering its past, brings its own story. Therefore, we can never predict how the dog will actually develop and react to living in Germany with you. Lory can travel for fostering or an end placement.

Wir können deshalb nie vorhersagen, wie der Hund sich tatsächlich entwickelt und auf das Zusammenleben in Deutschland mit dir/euch reagieren wird. Lory kann auf eine Pflege- oder Endstelle reisen.

About Lory in Portugal

What life with Lory in Portugal looks like

Lory in Portugal is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pro Dog International e.V. in Talkau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lory in Portugal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lory in Portugal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pro Dog International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lory in Portugal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lory in Portugal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pro Dog International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lory in Portugal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lory in Portugal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pro Dog International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lory in Portugal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
