Lotti

Female · Young · 1 year

Lotti is a two-year-old Terrier who was not originally on our waiting list. We were full, and another dog wasn't planned. Then one of our foster families became aware of her situation. Lotti's original owner had to give her up, and a person took her in during the emergency. Now Lotti was supposed to be abandoned. For the protection of her original owner, we won't go into details. We had the option to take Lotti in or let her be abandoned. We didn't have much choice. From what we know, Lotti has experienced violence from a man in the past. This is reflected in her behavior. She is often uncertain around adults, especially men. At the same time, Lotti is able to trust people. She is very open to children. She is safe in her environment and currently fits in unproblematically in everyday life. She has not shown aggressive behavior towards dogs or people so far. Lotti has hardly received any training so far. Her leash obedience is not yet good, and she has to learn a lot. This is not a problem with her character, but simply a lack of guidance. Lotti is a very nice dog who can learn a lot with clear and friendly guidance. After an adjustment period, Lotti can be left alone for a while. We don't know how she reacts to cats yet. Since we took Lotti in during the emergency, we are looking for a home or a foster family for her. We wish for Lotti people with dog experience who are willing to guide a temporarily uncertain dog trustfully. People who approach her with sensitivity, respect and confidence, become stable reference persons and give her binding orientation. This is how she can experience security. Lotti is not a dog for people without dog experience and not a dog for everyone who is looking for a fully trained companion. She needs time, structure and people who neither ignore nor avoid uncertainty. We wish for Lotti a home where she can come to rest and at the same time experience how much fun working together with people can be.

About Lotti

What life with Lotti looks like

Lotti is a young adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lotti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
