adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Lotus may stay forever in his foster home! His story: 86720 Nördlingen. Lotus was able to travel to his foster home in mid-February and is developing well there. He has already made great progress in a short time and is very happy when his foster parents come home, cuddles with the cat, and loves his big brother Chaplin, who shows him the new dog life in a relaxed manner. The new peace and quiet do him a lot of good, because now Lotus no longer has to be the protector for his 3 siblings. He always had the task of standing in front of his pack and defending them. Since this burden has been taken from him, he is thawing out and can also let go and relax. Originally, Lotus came from Bistrita, Romania. Four puppies were found by the Animal Police in a deserted cabin. The scene was horrifying… Hope, his sister, was hanging by her neck from the door. The three other brothers were completely terrified in the cabin, tied up so that there was no escape. Hope was just rescued, and all four siblings came to us at the Bistrita Shelter. Unfortunately, little Hope fell ill with Parvovirus shortly after her arrival and passed away. Lotus's brothers Gobitu and Lero have also already been able to travel. Lotus is currently still a bit mistrustful of people, but he is opening up a little more every day. You can see that he wants to. He wants to cuddle, play, run around, and have fun. But he still can't get over his fear. Lotus is just over 1 year old and has a shoulder height of about 55 cm with a weight of around 27-30 kg. It is assumed that he will grow to a medium to large size of about 60 cm and around 30 kg. We are looking for a quiet home for him, preferably rural and without children, as they would scare him too much.

About Lotus

What life with Lotus looks like

Lotus is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lotus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
