Adopt Lotus

Old English Sheepdog · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

This is Lotus: a cat estimated to be around 6 years old. She was found on the street, and her condition was not too good. We don't know her past, but it's clear that she hasn't always had it easy. After her discovery, she went through a period of struggling. She, for example, had a case of muscle inflammation. Thanks to proper care, rest, and medical support, she is now happily recovered. She feels better, eats a bit better, and is ready for a new chapter in her life. Besides her previous health issues, she has permanent tear tracks under both eyes. Likely, her tear ducts are not fully developed, causing the tears to overflow and stream down her cheeks. This results in what is known as "overstroomoogjes." For her eyes, little special care is needed. It's sufficient to clean her eyes about 3 to 4 times a week with sterile water. Additionally, Lotus is a loving girl. She can be a bit shy at first, but secretly enjoys being gently stroked. With an overstroomoogje, the tears are not adequately drained through the tear duct, causing them to flow down the cheek. This is often caused by an old tear duct blockage, such as from a herpes infection (a form of cold sore). As long as the tears are clear and watery, sometimes with a rust-brown tinge from the pigment porphyrine, and the inside of the eyelid is not red, nothing else needs to be done except occasionally wiping away the tears. If the drainage becomes green or yellow, the inside of the eyelid turns redder, or she starts squinting, it's wise to consult a vet. This could indicate an eye infection that requires treatment. Despite her medical history, this is an absolutely loving cat ready for her own home. We are looking for a loving place where she gets the attention, rest, and care she deserves.

About Lotus

What life with Lotus looks like

Lotus is a adult old english sheepdog cat waiting at Dierenopvangcentrum Breda in Breda.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvangcentrum Breda handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvangcentrum Breda will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lotus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvangcentrum Breda early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
