Adopt LOU

Male · Senior · 26 years

LOU is a small horse with great sensitivity. Arrived at the shelter in 2017, his shyness doesn't help him showcase his best side to potential adopters. Having little trust in humans, he requires calm and delicacy during handling (grooming, veterinary visits, etc.). He is sociable with other horses of the same species and spends the summer outdoors on pasture, but is brought into the stable in winter to be supplemented; however, he can spend cold periods outside with good coverage and additional pellets, in addition to hay. Being in the company of a sociable fellow horse of the same species will help him gain confidence. LOU patiently awaits his forever family, one who will be touched by his shyness and ready to offer him a peaceful home with lots of love and delicacy. In urgent need of adoption due to his age.

Read original (fr)

About LOU

What life with LOU looks like

LOU is a senior horse waiting at SPA Grand Refuge de Pervenchères in Pervencheres.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting LOU, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about LOU?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Grand Refuge de Pervenchères handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw LOU on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt LOU if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Grand Refuge de Pervenchères will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is LOU already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if LOU isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Grand Refuge de Pervenchères early rather than rehoming privately; they know LOU and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
