Loui

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 8 years

I am Loui! I am a cat with a difficult history and I would like to tell you how I ended up here at the shelter. I came here as a surrendered animal after my behavior changed dramatically due to a change in my previous environment. I became increasingly insecure and started attacking, hitting and biting my family. That's why living together at home was no longer possible and I came to the shelter. But soon I was lucky: loving people took an interest in me and wanted to give me a new chance. I was allowed to move out and hoped that everything would get better. Unfortunately, it didn't work out there either. I bit very hard and had to go back to the shelter. Now I live here with other cats in the cat house. At the moment I withdraw a lot, hide and want my peace. I need time to gain trust and feel safe. But please don't think I'm just difficult! Because when I have gained trust, I can be an incredibly cuddly guy. I love being cuddled and enjoying the closeness to my people. However, there is also a little imp in me. Sometimes my mood can change suddenly and I can become mean for no apparent reason. That's why you need people who understand my body language, respect my boundaries and are willing to engage with me and my very own way. It's not always easy with my fellow cats either. I get along well with some cats, but the energy just doesn't match. It depends very much on who is facing me and how we harmonize with each other. I think I would really enjoy outdoor time in a quiet and safe environment. Exploring nature, enjoying fresh air and experiencing my own little adventures and then returning to a safe place where I feel comfortable. I know I'm not a simple cat. But I'm not just "the cat who bit". I am Loui, with my good sides, my difficult sides and a lot of potential if you give me the time, patience and security I need. 🐾 Maybe there are people somewhere who understand me and want to give me a chance despite my past. Your Loui

Euer Loui

About Loui

What life with Loui looks like

Loui is a small adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loui, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loui?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loui on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loui if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loui already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loui isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loui and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
