Adopt Louie

Male · Adult · 4 years

Louie has already experienced a lot of bad things at a young age. He was found beside a road during a bitterly cold Romanian winter with a broken femur. He lay there without protection, food or water in the snow for days - yet despite this difficult time, he won the fight for his life. Thanks to kind people and medical care at the animal shelter, Louie recovered well. Today, Louie is a calm and sensitive dog with a gentle nature. He was a cautious dog for a long time, attached to his caregivers and only able to trust them fully. He still meets strangers very reservedly and needs time to feel safe. Unfortunately, it is currently becoming clear that Louie is becoming increasingly insecure. During our visits, he seems more withdrawn and dares less and less. He now even has to be lured out of his kennel because he no longer dares to go out on his own. This development shows how much he needs a stable, quiet environment outside the shelter. Louie generally gets along well with other dogs, but does not particularly like small dogs, probably due to a negative experience in the past. Currently, Louie is also overweight. This issue should also be handled carefully, with patience, exercise and adapted feeding in his future home or on a foster care placement. For Louie, we are looking for a quiet, loving home where he can arrive slowly and without pressure. People with experience in dealing with sensitive dogs are especially important for him, as he needs time, security and clear, calm guidance to regain trust and flourish again. The more we wish for him, the sooner we hope he finds people who show him that life also has beautiful sides and what it feels like to truly be part of a family. Who will give Louie this great chance for a safe and loving home? Even a foster care placement or a foster care placement with a fixed option would be an important step in his new life. We will take care of the processing as soon as possible!

About Louie

What life with Louie looks like

Louie is a large adult dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
