adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Louie has found a home! His story: Louie is a young, approximately 65 cm tall and 23 kg heavy male dog, who daily amazes with his friendly nature, energy, and willingness to learn. Currently in the midst of puberty, he occasionally expresses this through increased barking – but that is slowly settling down. Getting up early is no problem for him: by 05:30 he is ready for the day! He is absolutely compatible with other dogs and greets people with great openness and joy. Although he only knows cats from a distance, his open and friendly nature speaks for a harmonious coexistence with feline companions. Horses, cows, and other animals are familiar to him, and he faces new situations with unshaken and sovereign confidence. Louie masters all basic commands and some tricks, is generally leash-friendly, and shows a reliable recall – even in exciting moments. Walking with him is really fun! He rides in the car without a problem, knows the daily routine in the office, and has always behaved exemplary and calmly there – a true office dog, indeed. Especially, Louie loves playing: tug-of-war, frisbee, and joint action are highly valued by him. At the same time, he also enjoys cuddle sessions and quiet moments with his people. After appropriate stimulation, he can also be left alone well (and for longer periods), especially if he gets a chew toy or something similar for mental stimulation. Although he may look like a herding dog, he currently shows no typical protective instincts. Instead, Louie is open, slender, athletic, people-oriented, and very eager to learn – an active dog who wants to please his people and quickly understands what is expected of him. If you are looking for a loyal, active, and at the same time affectionate dog who goes through thick and thin with you, then Louie could be the perfect companion for you. Louie is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings an EU pet passport with him and can be taken to a new home after a positive assessment. Many thanks to Kathi! You gave Louie his charming name. As of 27.09. Walks well on a leash.

Vielen Dank an Kathi! Du hast Louie seinen entzückenden Namen geschenkt. Stand: 27.09.2025

About Louie

What life with Louie looks like

Louie is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
