Louis

Male · Adult · 4 years

Hello, I found this dog three days ago on the route de la traversée, and I think it was abandoned. He is very thin. I have been feeding him for three days, but he is very fearful and can't be approached yet. Given his condition, he must have been tied up and mistreated for a long time because his tail is between his legs. His days are numbered!! Next week, unfortunately, he has a great chance of ending up at the pound. He is in kennel care in Guadeloupe, which was evacuated due to the cyclone, so he is in a varikenel in a garage during the entire storm with the other dogs from the kennel... He must be tired of the cage by now, and his leg is hurting him. Here is the SOS received by COPA. The dog has been secured, and he suffers greatly from his fracture; the bone must be going into his flesh. The veterinarians in Guadeloupe did not want to operate on him, but the veterinarians here have said it is possible... so we are trying! Louis is a calm and affectionate dog who has suffered a lot. He is very intelligent and knows very well who he is dealing with. Poor Louis, he is now over 10 years old and has been in refuge for over 10 years. Will he find his family someday?

About Louis

What life with Louis looks like

Louis is a large adult dog waiting at 30 Millions d'Amis in Paris.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 30 Millions d'Amis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 30 Millions d'Amis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 30 Millions d'Amis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
