Luca

Male Β· Adult Β· 8 years

Luca is a sweet Heidewachtel male, born on December 25, 2018. He is energetic, cheerful, and sensitive, with a strong will-to-please. Luca wants to do well for his people and can sometimes make an unintentional mistake. However, his intention is always good. Luca is not an unknown to us. Over 6.5 years ago, he came to our shelter as a young dog. From there, he found a home where he did well for years. At some point, we received the message that there was no room for further training for his adoptants, and Luca returned to us. When Luca returned to us, we saw a dog that had experienced a lot of impressions over time and had difficulty relaxing. With the rest and clear guidance he needed, we soon saw a much more relaxed Luca. This showed again how important the right balance is for him: clear guidance, sufficient exercise, and especially enough rest. Luca found a new home again. Unfortunately, over time, the guidance that was so important for Luca was increasingly pushed into the background. Less and less was adhered to the rules and advice that were drawn up for him, and no help was sought from us. In the meantime, Luca showed several times that he was overstimulated and that too much was demanded of him. When Luca crosses his limits, he actually needs more rest and not more stimuli or activity. This balance is extremely important for him. Ultimately, Luca was brought to our pension during a vacation. The adoptants did not want to pay the pension costs and did not pick him up again. So he came back to us. No matter how sad this situation is, we are especially very happy that Luca is safe with us again. We see Luca again as the dog we know: a sweet, cheerful, and energetic dog who loves to go on an adventure with his human. He is eager to learn, willing to work, and has a strong will-to-please. He wants to work together and does his best. He loves long walks. Scent work or other activities where he can use his nose would also suit him well. But Luca does not need to be busy all day. An energetic dog like Luca needs sufficient sleep and rest to process all the impressions of the day. He can enthusiastically follow what his people offer and therefore easily do more than is actually good for him. His people must therefore not only be able to see when he needs exercise, but also when it is time to switch off. During his stay with us, we see that Luca gets along well with most dogs. He finds very busy or very excited dogs exciting. A calm and stable dog therefore suits him better than a dog that constantly brings a lot of excitement or tension. For Luca, we are looking for a quiet and loving place without children, with people who understand that an energetic dog is not the same as a dog that must be busy all the time. We are looking for someone who enjoys long walks and is busy with his dog, but who also understands that sometimes rest is just as important. Someone who can give Luca clear and quiet guidance, who takes his signals seriously and who is willing to ask for help when something is not going well. Because Luca does not have to do everything himself. He needs people who take responsibility and help him when the amount of stimuli becomes too much for him. Luca does not have to be perfect. He does not always have to do everything right and he does not have to constantly perform to earn love. He needs people who understand him, who can give him rest when needed, and who provide him with the security that he does not have to solve everything himself. We are now looking for people for Luca who not only love his cheerful and energetic character, but who also really want to understand what he needs. Luca deserves a place where he can stay. A place where he can feel safe and relaxed, where he can be himself, and where love is not dependent on performance. Important characteristics of Luca are: * Energy level: High * Intelligence: Average * Self-confidence: Average * Self-awareness: Average * Persistence: Average It is important that you score higher than or equal to the dog you want to adopt in the characteristics to ensure that a suitable match can be made. About Luca

What life with Luca looks like

Luca is an adult dog waiting at Stichting Animals Faith in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Animals Faith handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Stichting Animals Faith will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Animals Faith early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
