Luca

Male · Adult · 7 years

Some dogs aren’t just waiting for a new home—they’re also waiting for someone who’ll truly take the time to get to know them. Luca is one such dog. In 2024, Luca ended up at a shelter in the region together with his “sister,” after their owners separated. For both dogs, their lives changed overnight. While his sister quickly found a new home, Luca was left behind. As the months passed and he kept getting overlooked again and again, the shelter staff watched him slowly change. At first, Luca was mostly reserved and cautious; but as time went on, he began to feel increasingly tense around new people. Even during walks, he’d sometimes lunge at passersby when his tension reached a tipping point—not because he’s an unpleasant dog, but because he simply hadn’t received the right guidance to manage that tension. Ultimately, it was decided that Luca would get a fresh start with us. Here, we see primarily a sensitive young dog who’s searching for stability and security. He needs some time to get to know you, but once that trust is established, he quickly reveals a whole new side of himself. The second time we visited his kennel, he was already wagging his tail eagerly, waiting for us. That says it all about Luca: Give him clarity, patience, and a little bit of time, and he’ll gradually open up more and more. During walks, Luca walks nicely on the leash. He gets along great with other dogs—as long as they respect his boundaries and give him space. In those moments of calm, we see a dog who loves going on adventures together and shows increasing signs of relaxation. For Luca, we’re looking for people who understand that trust can’t be forced—it has to grow naturally. People who’ll provide him with clear guidance, give him the time he needs to bond, and let him experience that this time, he really can stay. We’re convinced that with the right people by his side, Luca can blossom into a loyal and dependable companion. Luca is zo'n hond. About Luca

What life with Luca looks like

Luca is a adult dog waiting at Stichting Animals Faith in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Animals Faith handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Animals Faith will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Animals Faith early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
