Lucero

Male · Adult · 4 years

A dog to fall in love with... if you are not big, strong, and male... Unfortunately, Lucero is afraid of big men, even though these people, like his "foster dad," make great efforts to win Lucero's heart. Evidently, Lucero has had very negative experiences in Spain. At his foster home, Lucero lives easily with other dogs. In the first contact, Lucero is very reserved. But he warms up and then a lively little dog appears. Lucero is a playful Bodeguero. His favorite things include playing together with his dog friends, playing with a ball, and being close to HIS people. He loves the time spent cuddling and is then full of trust. From his dog friends, Lucero has benefited a lot and has learned many things from them. We are now looking for a loving home for Lucero, preferably in a "female household"! The young Bodeguero wants to find his fixed place and HIS people who want to accompany him with much love through his further years of life. Lucero is a young dog who wants to experience a lot together with HIS people and needs to collect many experiences in his new dog life. In this process, he will need the security of HIS people and with their loving support, he will learn to confidently and worry-free go through his new life. His future family will gain a family member with Lucero and should treat him as such. He would be very happy about existing dogs in his final home. Lucero has already placed his paw print directly in your heart, and if you want to give this little male dog a basket for eternity, you can already start making the first preparations for the arrival of your new family member. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs come with a backpack of past experiences or situations they have not learned, and they need time to adjust to their new life.

About Lucero

What life with Lucero looks like

Lucero is a large adult dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
