Lucky

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 6 years

Lucky is a very affectionate and communicative cat who enjoys the company of his humans. He loves petting, but only when he wants to. If it becomes too much for him, he makes it clear with a growl. It's nice to see that Lucky clearly communicates his boundaries and doesn't react with his paw. So, if you respect his signals, you know exactly what to expect from him. Lucky is unfortunately quite stressed here at the shelter. The presence of other cats is particularly upsetting for him. Even just hearing the other cats in quarantine causes him distress and he likes to comment on it with a loud growl. This behavior is not directed at humans - Lucky just wants to make it very clear: he definitely doesn't need other cats in his life. That's why we are looking for a home for him where he can have his humans all to himself. Lucky is a true solo cat and will only be placed without other cats. Lucky has also made his own decision about outdoor time. In his previous home, he always had the opportunity to go outside - but Lucky didn't even think about putting a paw outside. He feels more comfortable indoors. Also, children should not live in his future home. It has already been shown in his previous home that Lucky doesn't get along well with children and prefers to keep them at a distance. We therefore wish for a quiet home with adults who can read his signals, respect his boundaries, and give him the opportunity to decide for himself when he wants closeness and petting. Anyone who takes Lucky as he is will get a cuddly, talkative cat with a lot of personality and pretty clear ideas about what his perfect home should look like.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
