Adopt Lucky

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

Sometimes an animal tells more with its eyes than with anything else... This is also true for our Lucky. 🤍 He was found in the evening in mid-March – alone, exhausted, and marked by what he probably had to endure for a long time. We don't know how long he was on the streets or what he experienced. But we can see that he has fought. Lucky is about 15 years old and has never been spayed or microchipped. In addition, he had severe matting on his back, which had to be clipped (his fur is now growing back beautifully). Lucky is FIV positive, but the disease has not broken out and is not an obstacle for a beautiful, long cat life. 🍀 Despite all of this, he has preserved his loving nature. Lucky is a quiet, gentle tomcat who just wants to find a home. He enjoys every petting, every warm blanket, and especially the security that he finally gets to experience. At our animal shelter, he is currently being lovingly cared for – and every day it becomes more obvious how much he longs for a real home. ➡️ For Lucky, we are looking for people with big hearts: A quiet home where he is loved as a single prince and can finally rest. He should be allowed to live a pure indoor cat life – a secured balcony would be a little paradise for him. A dental cleaning is still needed, which we will obviously take care of. Lucky has been through so much – all he needs now is one thing: A person who shows him that life can also be beautiful. A home where he is loved and can stay... forever. 💛 Who will give our senior his well-deserved peace and a loving home? Please get in touch with us – Lucky is waiting.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a large senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für den Kreis Altenkirchen e.V. in Daaden.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für den Kreis Altenkirchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für den Kreis Altenkirchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für den Kreis Altenkirchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
