adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Lucky can stay forever in his foster family! His story: Oh Lucky, what suffering and pain must you have endured? The fluffy Lucky was found on the roadside, more dead than alive. He was in a catastrophic physical condition and severely injured on one of his front legs. Immediately, he was taken to the vet, where he was immediately given intravenous fluids. His leg also had to be amputated. A rescue was no longer possible due to this circumstance. Due to this, Lucky is currently still underweight and weighs only 11 kg at a medium size of about 49 cm. We are, however, working on helping him gain some more weight. At 2 years old, the calm male dog is in the best age to start a new and pain-free life. Our colleagues describe him as a very calm and balanced dog. In the shelter, he is strongly overwhelmed by the loud barking and the snarling of other dogs. Once he is settled, he begins to relax and enjoys cuddles and closeness. He gets along well with his fellow animals. He also already runs well on a leash and with a harness. As a three-legged dog, he has already mastered his situation very orderly. However, he still needs time to fully adapt to it. For this, we wish for a home that takes Lucky as he is. Despite his three legs, the sweet boy wants to be challenged and cared for and wishes for people who help him forget his past. He will thank it with unconditional love. Lucky is most likely a Schnauzer mix. A prey drive cannot be ruled out. Your new family should enjoy outdoor activities, because Lucky is an active young male dog, despite having three legs, who looks forward to nice walks. Lucky would also enjoy nose work, such as mantrailing. Schnauzers are known to be lively but very balanced inside, they are clingy but also independent, they are brave and vigilant but also playful. This versatility makes them adaptable all-round dogs. With his three legs, Lucky can also jump very well when he is happy 🙂 Long-term, a visit to dog training classes working with positive reinforcement would also be of great benefit. Here, Lucky can not only learn the dog 1×1 and strengthen the connection to his people, but also play and communicate extensively with his dog buddies. Lucky travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas with his own EU pet passport in his luggage and into the new home for an adoption fee of 500 Euros. Of course, a positive foster placement would also make Lucky very happy. Many thanks Mahi Mahu! You named Lucky! A big thank you also goes to Karin A., who has taken over a monthly sponsorship for Lucky. As of: 15.05.

Stand: 15.05.2024

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
