Lucy C

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Lucy - a little miracle on four paws is looking for her big happiness. Lucy was born around November 2025 and today she is about 44 cm tall. Behind the cheerful young mixed breed dog lies a story that could hardly be sadder - and at the same time it shows how incredibly strong and full of life a dog can be. Shortly before Christmas, on December 23, 2025, the then only about four weeks old Lucy was found severely injured in a ditch. She had been hit by a car and simply left behind. When she was brought to the animal clinic, she was completely dehydrated, full of fleas and had a fracture of the shin bone as well as the thigh bone. Such a small dog child must have already endured unimaginable pain and fear. But Lucy did not give up. Thanks to quick operations, loving care in the animal shelter and regular physiotherapy she has recovered impressively. When we got to know Lucy, there was hardly anything left of all the bad experiences. Instead of distrust, she showed us her joie de vivre, curiosity and a lot of love. She came openly to us, wanted to play, cuddle and just be with us. It is hard to believe that this cheerful little girl had such a difficult start in life. Lucy is an open-minded, friendly and balanced young dog. She gets along very well with other dogs, plays exuberantly and shows herself confident and carefree. Currently she lives with two females of her age and enjoys their company very much. That's why we can imagine her as a second dog, but she will certainly be happy if her people have enough time for her. We also think that families with understanding children are very good for Lucy. She loves contact with humans and wants to be everywhere. We would like to see more people who do not see her past, but all that lies ahead of her. She has so much joie de vivre, love and trust to give away and finally deserves a home where she can grow up carefree. Lucy is currently in our partner animal shelter in Ibrány, Hungary, and eagerly awaits her own family. A foster place in the Bochum area would also be of great help and would make it easier for her to start her new life. Lucy travels vaccinated, chipped, with EU pet passport and parasitic treatment. Before departure, a heartworm test as well as a Babesia test will of course also be carried out. Whoever gives Lucy a home does not get a dog who wants to be pitied. You get a cheerful, brave young female dog who shows every day that after a difficult start a happy life full of love is possible anyway. We are happy to answer your questions.

About Lucy C

What life with Lucy C looks like

Lucy C is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundepfoten Steinfurt e.V. in Nordwalde.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy C, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy C?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundepfoten Steinfurt e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy C on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy C if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundepfoten Steinfurt e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucy C already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy C isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundepfoten Steinfurt e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy C and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
