Lucy

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 6 years

Lucy was dropped off at our shelter because husbandry was no longer possible. We don't know what happened to her in her previous life. Here at the animal shelter, she is very stressed and doesn't want to have anything to do with either people or fellow animals. Currently, she is in a single enclosure because she simply couldn't get along in a group. It's good that she is finally beginning to thaw out here after a long time. Earlier, she would simply flee at our sight, but now she at least stays quietly lying down or even comes very close to us during the daily feeding. Through this great progress, we can imagine that the mouse will also fully settle in a quiet home with the same people after some time. Whether she really needs free roam or a suitable apartment living arrangement, we can't say for sure yet, as she tends to do less in our presence. But it will certainly become clear in time. The delicate mouse can be introduced to the animal shelter for a get-to-know-you session. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Lucy

What life with Lucy looks like

Lucy is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
