adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Luis has found a home! His story: Luis arrived as a timid dog in a box at his foster home, having hidden in it during his long journey from Romania to Germany in the transport vehicle. Still very cautious, he spent the first few days mostly sleeping, as he needed time to observe his new environment. But soon his curiosity and desire to explore became evident. He ventured out of his box and began to slowly explore the house. Luis immediately made contact with the other dogs in the household – they welcomed him with friendly sniffs and showed him how pack life works. Although he was still a bit shy around people at first, a connection with him was quickly established. Treats, patient affection, and hand-feeding helped him build trust. Searching for his food in the sniffing mat was especially fun for him – a great way to encourage his curiosity. Luis is a young dog who learns very quickly. Putting on the harness was initially a challenge, but after a few attempts, he realized he doesn’t have to be afraid. Today, he lets himself be stroked, sleeps contentedly in his dog bed, and goes up and down the stairs as if he’s never done anything else. He loves walks, even if he sometimes gets startled by unfamiliar sounds. In such moments, he looks to the other dogs, who show him that everything is okay. Luis has a strong prey drive – birds are not safe from him! Nevertheless, he also has a playful character and often challenges other dogs to play. An active playmate who can run through the fields with him would surely make him very happy and give him a lot of security, so we can imagine Luis well as a second dog. Household noises like vacuum cleaners, coffee machines, and televisions are no longer a problem for him, and staying alone is getting better since he regularly goes for walks with the other dogs. If he lives in a stable environment, his security will continue to grow, and house training will become a routine. We are looking for a home for Luis with active, dog-experienced people who can provide him with the necessary security and structure to continue growing. An independent only dog in the new home would be ideal to show him how wonderful life as a family dog can be. A visit to a positively working dog training class could also help Luis learn the dog ABCs and continue to develop. Luis is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated. He travels to his new home with an EU pet passport. If you are ready to give him the time and security he needs, he will be a loyal, curious, and life-loving companion who wants to explore the world with you. Luis is ready to start a new life. Give him the chance to build trust – and you will receive a heart full of love in return. Many thanks to Kerstin! You gave Luis his name! Date: 26.07.

Vielen Dank an Kerstin! Du hast Luis Namen geschenkt! About Luis

What life with Luis looks like

Luis is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
