Luka

Beagle · Male · Senior · 11 years

“Independent Spirit” Date of Birth: March 2015 Size: under knee-high Since in animal shelter: July 2022 Gets along with dogs: yes Children in the same household: no Home sought: house or apartment with a garden, in the countryside The Beagle male dog Luka, born in 2015, was once a chained dog and is friendly to people after a short get-to-know-you phase. He is also well-tempered with fellow animals. However, the independent dog man does not seek contact with dogs and does not seek cuddling with his human. Luka is house-trained and walks well on a leash. He takes heart medication, which makes him very fit! Since Luka defends resources (against human and animal), we are looking for a childless home in the countryside for the independent spirit. “I am a typical Beagle and often try to assert my own head. I like to go for walks, sniff with enthusiasm, and am a bottom-feeder – which makes reward-oriented learning a lot of fun for me. My resource theme should also be further trained in my new home. Are you the person who wants to give me a home? Then get in touch!

Dann melde dich!“

About Luka

What life with Luka looks like

Luka is a medium-sized senior beagle dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
