Luki

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Luki originally came from Romania and was already rehomed as a puppy by us. After several serious biting incidents, he had to return. Therefore, outside of his own property, he is on a leash and in a muzzle. However, if someone is expecting a "problem dog," they are not quite right. Luki is actually a pretty cool guy – if you can read dogs well and are willing to take responsibility. He walks excellently on a leash, is generally compatible with other animals, travels relaxed by car, is house-trained, can be left alone without a problem, knows basic commands, and even passed the companion dog test. From a training standpoint, he brings a lot to the table. His issue is with people who do not respect his boundaries. Luki does not like to be touched aggressively and especially dislikes when someone invades his personal space. Importantly, his body language is extremely nuanced – and he does not growl. He warns not loudly or obviously. His signals are subtle and can be easily missed by untrained people – but are clear and distinct for trained people. Therefore, it is essential that his future people can really, really well interpret a dog's body language. Luki does not bite without warning – but who do not recognize or ignore his fine signals take away his ability to communicate in other ways. Therefore, sought are confident, dog-experienced people who can interpret his body language accurately, respect his boundaries, and clearly represent them to others. Luki can rely on his primary caregiver to handle situations so he does not have to. He will only be rehomed into a quiet, childless home and only as a single dog, as he does not need other dogs for his happiness. Luki is not a beginner dog – but for the right people, he is a loyal, well-trained companion with character and depth. This is a young, adolescent dog. Gets along with other dogs.

DE·Show original

Rein vom Trainingsstand her bringt er also richtig viel mit.

About Luki

What life with Luki looks like

Luki is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
