Lumpi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 16 years

Lumpi, born circa 2010, neutered, healthy, tame, seeks quiet home as a single king. Lumpi is a beautiful, sturdy tomcat, but not heavy, and does not appear to be an old cat. He jumps onto the window ledge without running, runs up the stairs, requires no medication. At first glance, he has healthy teeth; if dental work is needed, it will still be done. His blood test is very good. Lumpi lived quietly and retired for 16 years with an older lady - the age estimate is not exact and cannot be verified. When his beloved owner had to go into a nursing home, he was temporarily cared for by neighbors and is now in foster care, where he slowly recovers from the drastic change in his life. He is generally very attached to (female) humans, very affectionate, but has extreme fear in new situations and initially only comes out at night to eat and go to the bathroom. Once he warms up, he cuddles with his caregiver and enjoys petting and head scratches. However, he is not a lap cat. If something does not suit him, e.g., being picked up, he tries to wriggle out; he never scratches or bites. At the current foster home where he currently has no access to secure outdoor space, he likes to go onto the window ledge and sniff fresh air through the bars. We suspect that with secure outdoor access or even a large interconnected balcony, he would be much happier, especially without other cats. His new owner's patience will be rewarded. (A man is welcome to be involved but not as primary caregiver.) Children, dogs, visitors, parties are not his thing; he needs retreat options. Inquiries for Lumpi:

DE·Show original

About Lumpi

What life with Lumpi looks like

Lumpi is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lumpi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lumpi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lumpi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lumpi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lumpi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lumpi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lumpi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
