Luna

Belgian Malinois · Female · Senior · 8 years

Luna – special Malinois female dog seeks people with experience and understanding. Luna waits at the animal shelter for people who are ready to look closer and recognize her potential. Unfortunately, we know nothing about her past, but she brings with her many of the qualities that Malinois enthusiasts appreciate: intelligence, attentiveness, sensitivity, and a massive presence. At the same time, Luna clearly shows that she is not a dog for beginners. Like many Malinois, she not only brings her strengths but also her intensity. She is not a dog who simply walks by your side – Luna observes, reacts, thinks with, and needs people who can give her orientation. Luna perceives her environment very intensely. Movement stimuli and dynamics draw her attention strongly, and currently, it is still difficult for her to remain calm in such moments. Depending on the situation, she may show hunting behavior, for example, with cars or dynamic movement stimuli. Dog encounters are also currently still difficult for her; she already reacts with fixation and high tension from a distance. When Luna is overwhelmed and additionally pressured – such as through unasked-for touching or when someone leans over her – she can react clearly. She communicates clearly and shows when situations become too much for her. Taking her signals seriously and recognizing them in time will be particularly important in living with her. But Luna consists of much more than the topics that need to be worked on. Away from stress and overloading, she shows a completely different side: When she can relax, she observes her environment calmly, seeks proximity, and enjoys cuddle sessions very much. Even when she gets excited, she often manages to calm down surprisingly well. She does not come across as a dog working against people – but as one that needs security. Resources have not been an issue so far either. In dealing with food or toys, she behaved unobtrusively and even showed conscious consideration in her interactions with people. A dog trainer who got to know Luna described her despite her “Special Effects” as a great female dog with a lot of potential. And perhaps that is exactly what it comes down to: People who know Malinois often know that these dogs often bring a special intensity. They challenge their people, reflect insecurities very directly, and need clear guidance. Precisely in this lies their strength. Those who understand her language do not win a dog who simply walks by their side – but a true partner. For Luna, we are exclusively seeking very dog-experienced people, ideally with experience with Malinois or comparable working dog breeds. We do not currently see children in her future home. Luna would probably also benefit most as a single dog. People who consciously choose Malinois do not do so because these dogs are uncomplicated. Rather, they are looking for something special: character, intensity, and genuine cooperation. Luna brings all of that. This dog has a prey drive.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
