Luna

Female · Senior · 14 years

Despite being nearly 15 years old, Luna still has plenty of pep in her step! She likes getting out and about for a nice sniffy walk, and she walks well on the lead. She does have some stiffness in her limbs, but just take care when getting her harness on and giving her cuddles and she’ll be perfectly happy. She is fully housetrained and is a super foodie girl, which will help with any ongoing training – whoever said old dogs can’t learn new tricks was definitely wrong, Luna is such a clever girl! Luna settles well by herself so once she is familiar with her new home, she can be left by herself for up to 6 hours at a time. We can’t wait to see Luna cuddled up on a nice cosy bed, enjoying her glory days! Luna is a beautiful Westie who is looking for a quiet retirement home to fill her golden years with love. She has spent most of her life living with another dog, and she’d be happy to live with another calm doggy friend (pending a successful meet here at the centre). She has also previously lived with a cat – she may be a bit barky at times, but if you’re happy to manage slow introductions, we think she could potentially live with a cat again. Luna enjoys telling you all about any unfamiliar sights and sounds she might encounter, but she’s doing really well with her focus training here at the centre and we know that with some help from her new family, she’ll master using her inside voice! Luna is such a gorgeous girl who will be a joyful presence in her forever home.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a senior dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
