Adopt Luna

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

female dog Luna is still far from reaching the end of her development, but has already made good progress during her time at Sonnenhof and would like to continue her journey with "her" people. Luna should always be accompanied by a primary caregiver during her first contact with people, as she still reacts stormily and impulsively to strangers. However, once she has gotten to know someone and formed a bond, she becomes extremely loyal and always wants to do everything right, even if it doesn't always succeed due to her temperament. The joint training brings her great joy, and the female dog shows a willingness to learn, but she can still be easily distracted by environmental stimuli. Unfortunately, Luna's behavior has not always been guided into the right direction in her past life, which is evident in her often fierce reactions towards fellow animals and other creatures. This behavior is also displayed when people pass by or enter her home or garden, which is why Luna should only be in the garden in the company of her primary caregiver and the property must be secured with a fence. Neighbor properties or animals should also be at a sufficient distance from her own home, as Luna's impulsive behavior can also be triggered by them. The female dog is looking for a knowledgeable person with experience who can provide her with a secured home in the countryside.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Sonnenhof Eisenstadt (Sonnentiere) in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sonnenhof Eisenstadt (Sonnentiere) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sonnenhof Eisenstadt (Sonnentiere) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sonnenhof Eisenstadt (Sonnentiere) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
