Lunya

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Lunya, born March 2024, is a delicate, affectionate cat lady who actually enjoys human closeness very much, but she needs time to build trust. Once she has trusted someone, she also likes to be stroked and enjoys the attention of her person. She tolerates other cats but doesn't necessarily need them; she prefers things calm around her. Lunya appeared at a feeding spot in Sfaka/Crete in September 2024. At first glance it was clear she had been through a hard time: her right ear had been operated on, presumably because of a tumor. White cats in particular are especially at risk to their ears, since their skin there is very sensitive and Crete's sun burns relentlessly. At the feeding spot, Lunya quickly befriended the caretaker. She came to meet him happily and greeted him every time with a gentle nudge, followed by loving purring. As soon as food was available, she showed her resolute side and bravely defended her share, a little lioness with a big heart. Because of her friendly nature and her high risk of cancer, we decided to take Lunya off the street. In less sunny Germany she is far better off and can finally lead a safe, secure life. Lunya is still very shy at the moment. Eating, drinking and using the litter box work wonderfully, though. She is still easily startled and needs a lot of calm, security and patience to keep building trust. She already accepts being stroked, cautiously but visibly enjoying it. With loving attention she will surely soon gain more courage and show her gentle side. For Lunya we wish for a quiet home with people who give her time to settle in and shower her with the affection she longs for so much. Lunya would be happy about a secured balcony or a protected garden area.

Lunya, geb.

About Lunya

What life with Lunya looks like

Lunya is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lunya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lunya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lunya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lunya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lunya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lunya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lunya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
