Animal shelter Dejan Huella Castro: Update 21 October 2025: Lupin is still in the animal shelter. He is a dog with character, a bit of a grumpy but very affectionate uncle. He can be scared of the unknown and sometimes has a tendency to growl, but he can also be very well-behaved and loves walking. 4 new photos added. Update 25 February 2025: Lupin was positive for Leishmania last year, but has now recovered and the test results now show low values. He has no damaged organs and the situation is very controlled. This means that Lupin is now completely ready to be adopted! + 3 new photos added. Input: This beautiful medium-sized Podenco needs a family that gives him lots of love and attention. Lupin was left at an animal shelter by his owner. He has spent several years in various shelters, moving from one place to another and not being treated as he deserves... Lupin is an older male but still has a lot of energy. Sometimes he is a bit grumpy but not unfriendly, with character but certainly not aggressive. He is social, affectionate, playful, friendly, calm and obedient... He is not suitable for cats!!! Lupin walks perfectly on a leash. He tested positive for Leishmania and is being treated for it and regularly checked. He has no damaged organs and leads a completely normal life. Lupin eats well, is active and loves pats. Hopefully this treasure will be noticed soon and then finally start his real dog's life.

About Lupin

What life with Lupin looks like

Lupin is a medium-sized senior podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lupin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lupin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lupin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lupin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lupin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lupin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lupin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
