Lupito

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 6 years

Lupito appeared in a managed feral cat colony, and its feeder quickly informed us that it seemed friendly and was in very poor condition. We've had it with us for almost a year, and it wasn't until about 3 months ago that it truly began to improve, leading us to consider adoption. We don't know its exact age, although its personality doesn't suggest it's a very old cat; we estimate it's around 5-7 years old. As for its health status, it has been neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed, and we are awaiting a repeat feline immunodeficiency virus test, as it initially tested positive but then negative, though less than 6 months had passed since it came from the streets, so we need to repeat it in a few months. It also has feline calicivirus, which has been controlled after many months of antibiotics, interferon, laser treatments in the mouth, and numerous supplements. It eats commercial food and treats well, although calicivirus cannot be cured, it can remain stable for a long time. If it worsens, it would return to medication to control it. Currently, it lives in the our area office with another cat and surrounded by many dogs all day, with which it coexists perfectly. However, we believe its ideal home would be as a single cat, with a person (or people) who spend a lot of time at home, and even with children, as it is a loving cat that demands a lot of attention and even has moments of play, although most of the day it is quietly sleeping. Its adoption is complex, as it would need to be someone who understands what it entails to have a cat with calicivirus or is willing to learn about it, learn to medicate or inject it if necessary. Of course, the home to which it goes would need to be well-protected with grilles/mosquito nets and without the possibility of going outside, as this cat was likely abandoned or lost and would have died if it had stayed on the streets for a few more weeks.

About Lupito

What life with Lupito looks like

Lupito is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Abrazo Animal in Madrid.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lupito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lupito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Abrazo Animal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lupito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lupito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Abrazo Animal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lupito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lupito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Abrazo Animal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lupito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
