Lupus

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Lupus, born in 2017 and about 54 cm tall, is a friendly but rather reserved male who has made remarkable progress over the past few months. Since his dog group was restructured, he has shown noticeably more self-confidence and seems generally more relaxed. During a shelter visit in August 2025, he even left his kennel quite naturally and came curiously up to the fence – a big step forward for this sensitive boy. Previously, Lupus lived together with his kennel friend Captain and the dominant and, unfortunately, at times very aggressive Nico. While Captain has always been friendly, Lupus withdrew strongly and spent most of his time quietly in his kennel. Only after Nico was separated did Lupus begin to open up and take new steps toward trust. Despite this positive development, Lupus needs experienced and empathetic people who give him security and let him settle in at his own pace, without pressure. Lupus benefits from the company of his confident companion Captain, so we believe a friendly first-time dog could help him thaw out. For Lupus, we are looking for either a patient foster home or a loving forever home, where he can keep blossoming and finally experience what it is like to lead a carefree dog's life. Would you like to give Lupus the chance to build trust and find his happiness? Lupus is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can repeatedly reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in portraying each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions – may show a different side of itself. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to offer guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Lupus

What life with Lupus looks like

Lupus is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lupus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lupus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lupus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lupus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lupus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lupus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lupus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
