Adopt LUZ

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

A LUZ was found on the street. She is a gentle, docile and very affectionate cat who loves attention and cuddles. She easily lets herself be held in arms and is extremely kind to people. Unfortunately, she tested positive for FELV (feline leukemia), which means she cannot live with other healthy cats, as the disease is contagious. We are looking for a special person who wants to give LUZ a chance - through responsible adoption or as a temporary foster care family. Ideally, it would be a home without other cats, or only with cats also positive for FELV. The average life expectancy of a cat with FELV is 2 to 3 years, but LUZ is currently healthy, without any symptoms, and we would like this time to be lived with love, comfort and dignity. If you can open your heart (and your home) to LUZ, please contact us. She deserves this opportunity. LUZ will be delivered vaccinated, dewormed, spayed and with a microchip.

Read original (pt)

About LUZ

What life with LUZ looks like

LUZ is a small young adult mixed breed cat waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: FELV positive (feline leukemia) - cannot live with healthy cats, needs special care, 2-3 year life expectancy

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting LUZ, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about LUZ?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw LUZ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt LUZ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is LUZ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if LUZ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know LUZ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
