Lyra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Hello, I am Lyra. Because no one could take care of me anymore, I was given up at our shelter. I am a very friendly and open female dog. When meeting strangers, I need a little time to warm up, but once someone has won my heart, I become an incredibly cuddly and caring little mouse. In terms of my nature, I am more cautious in new situations and I need to carefully examine new things and assess new situations and people before becoming more brave. With a confident primary caregiver by my side, I am already very fearless. I am a big fan of all kinds of toys. I am house-trained and walk calmly on a leash. I am familiar with children and get along well with cats and other dogs. Health-wise, I show no issues. I am looking for a loving home in a relaxed neighborhood. The children should be a bit older and know the proper way to handle dogs. My new people should have some dog experience and treat me with confidence and fairness. If you would like to give me a home, please contact me!.

Deine Lyra

About Lyra

What life with Lyra looks like

Lyra is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
