adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Lysander has found a home! His story: The name Lysander comes from Greek and means 'the freed one.' How fitting – because we have also freed Lysander. Freed from the horror shelter in Vaslui. We were able to rescue 17 dogs from there, and they were all in a pitiful state. They were medically attended to and had some time to recover. All are currently housed in a private shelter, waiting hopefully to travel. Lysander is estimated to be around 5-6 years old and brings a medium size with about 50-53 cm and around 20 kg. The sweet puppy still needs time to trust humans again. But there have been progress, which we are very happy about. At first, he would have preferred to hide in a hole and disappear, but our helpers were able to lead him out of the kennel to a harness and leash. He allows human proximity but still cannot truly enjoy it. He would certainly like to step out of his shell, but he needs time and patience to open up. In a quieter living environment and with a connection to a family, also preferably in a foster home and with a responsible only dog, so much more could be possible. Lysander is very loving and not at all aggressive. But here at this place, he cannot further develop and hopes for a quieter spot and to be able to travel from here. It was probably the people who took the trust of the handsome shepherd-mix away. It will certainly be people who will have to give it back to him. Therefore, we are searching for an especially empathetic, patient, and also experienced home for Lysander, which gives him the opportunity to slowly and at his own pace acclimate to a new and beautiful dog life. The stress and loudness in the shelter take a toll on him, and his sensitive dog soul needs a quiet and warm place to learn and regenerate. Our Lysander is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings his EU pet passport and can travel after a positive health check. Do you have the possibility to give Lysander a new start in life? Many thanks, Silvie S.! You have given Lysander his beautiful name! Date: 07.06.

Vielen Dank Silvie S.! Du hast Lysander seinen schönen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 07.06.2024

About Lysander

What life with Lysander looks like

Lysander is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lysander, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lysander?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lysander on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lysander if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lysander already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lysander isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lysander and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
