Maggy, a cautious cuddle mouse with a big heart! Maggy comes from a killing station along with her five puppies. Now she lives at the animal shelter and is waiting for her humans. How the dogs get there and much more we explain in our animal protection FAQ. At the animal shelter, Maggy shows herself as a friendly and people-oriented female dog. At first, she can be a bit cautious around strangers, but still approaches on her own and seeks contact. Once she has gained trust, she enjoys the closeness very much, likes to be petted and even climbs onto the lap to be close by. Maggy is a rather quiet female dog that is closely oriented towards people and seeks closeness when she feels safe. Maggy has a scar on her back. However, this scar does not affect this furry nose at all. Our adoption team knows best about the exact health condition. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. For Maggy, we wish a loving home with people who give her time to settle in with patience, calmness and empathy, and who give her security and closeness. We wish this furry nose people who are aware that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already fallen in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering an adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered before travel arrangements (the exception are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write our adoption team a message.

About Maggy

What life with Maggy looks like

Maggy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maggy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maggy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maggy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maggy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maggy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maggy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maggy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
