adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Mahina has found her home! Her story: Wunderschöne Mahina is eagerly waiting for her new home! Mahina – her name means "Moon" in Hawaiian, and just like her name, she exudes calmness, softness, and security. This beautiful cat already has a rich history behind her. Originally, she was found sick and helpless on the street, but a loving woman took her in, nursed her back to health, and gave her a home. Unfortunately, her rescuer tragically passed away in a accident, and now Mahina is searching for another warm place in a loving home. Mahina is a relaxed and cuddly cat who enjoys the company of humans. She also gets along well with her fellow animals! She loves to snuggle and laze around, but her playful moments don't come to a halt. Whether she's playing with a toy or relaxing while dozing – Mahina knows how to enjoy life. For Mahina, we wish for a quiet home where she can experience security and love. She is a grateful companion who wins every heart with her gentle nature. Since she gets along so well with her fellow animals, she wouldn't mind if a cat roommate is already waiting for her in the new home – if not, she'd be happy to bring one of her cat friends from Romania! However, Mahina has had enough of the outside world for now and could do without a free roam. She would, however, be delighted with a cat-safe netted balcony. Mahina is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She also has an EU pet passport and is now ready to travel to her new home. Many thanks to Laura M. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Mahina

What life with Mahina looks like

Mahina is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mahina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mahina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mahina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mahina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mahina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mahina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mahina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
