adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Maila has found her home! Her story: When you look at the pictures of Sparklemouse Maila, you see pure joy for living – so much that you almost forget how hard and sad her start in life was. For the little mouse was left alone and unprotected on a busy street. What Maila would have faced if she hadn't been found and brought to safety in time, one can hardly imagine. Although Maila is only about 3 months old, she already brings with her everything that a picture-book puppy would: playful, incredibly loving, open – and so curious that nothing escapes her attention. She is most enthusiastic about us humans: she approaches everyone with friendliness and openness, wanting to form friendships immediately. She also gets along well with the other dogs in her Romanian foster home, and even her meeting with cats went smoothly. When fully grown, Maila is likely to be medium-sized. Currently, she is only 23 cm tall at the shoulder and weighs a delicate 5.5 kg, making her more than just a heartwarming little dog with her cute white and black look. As a true mixed breed, her exact breed origins are hard to determine. But one thing is certain: she will be beautiful – both inside and out. Herding dog genes cannot be ruled out. Maila is still in the early stages. House training, being left alone, leash manners – all of this is still on her learning plan. She wishes for a home that offers her security and structure, but also space for everything a puppy brings: dirty paws, energetic exploring, and the great desire for affection. Even the famous puppyhood will not pass Maila by without a trace. There will be days when she forgets what she learned yesterday. But such phases are completely normal and should be accompanied with understanding, patience, and a good portion of calmness. Long walks, varied mental stimulation, and perhaps later attending a qualified dog training class – Maila wants to experience many adventures and be part of them.

About Maila

What life with Maila looks like

Maila is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
