Main Coon

Mixed Breed · Male

Main-Coon, male and female cats of various ages. The Veterinary Office of Schwäbisch Hall has seized nearly 90 Maine-Coon cats from an animal hoarding situation. The animals originally came from a former breeding facility and lived together in a house. Due to the difficult living conditions, many cats were in poor health, anxious, and not accustomed to a normal family life. The rescued animals were distributed to various animal shelters and smaller animal welfare organizations. We initially took in 19 Maine-Coon cats: Many of our charges are still very shy. Some need time to get used to new people, sounds, and the unfamiliar environment. Therefore, patience, empathy, and a quiet household are particularly important. Those who decide on one or preferably two of these cats should be willing to build trust slowly and not to pressure the animals. The youngest cats are about four months old, others are already several years old. We generally want to place the animals in pairs. Single housing is only considered in well-founded exceptional cases, as the cats need social contact with their own kind. A secure balcony or a secure outdoor enclosure would be desirable and would provide the cats with additional variety. However, we cannot take responsibility for uncontrolled free-range access. The animals are only placed in safe indoor housing with appropriate safety precautions. Those who love Maine-Coon cats and are willing to accommodate their special needs can now give them a real new start. From frightened and overwhelmed animals, relaxed, trusting family members should become. Please contact us if you have the necessary space, time, and willingness for long-term responsibility. We are not looking for quick solutions for the cats, but people who will give them lasting security, patience, and security.

About Main Coon

What life with Main Coon looks like

Main Coon is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Main Coon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Main Coon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigsburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Main Coon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Main Coon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigsburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Main Coon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Main Coon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigsburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Main Coon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
