About Maisie

Maisie is a very sensitive girl and will need an experienced and patient owner. Her new home should ideally be quiet and must have a secure garden. Maisie would prefer company most of the time. Maisie is a bit nervous when first meeting new people, she will bark and pace when visitors come to the home. She can also be a bit snappy if people are overly familiar too quickly. But once she has had time to assess the situation and everyone has settled down, she relaxes and wants to sit on laps and get some attention. She is the same when meeting strangers outside; she usually ignores them if there is no interaction but if people stare at her or approach her too fast, she will bark at them. She is nervous of other dogs, especially when passing them on the street. If they get too close too fast she will bark at them. However, if she is introduced to a dog in a calm setting and given time to understand they are friendly, she will relax. On the other hand, Maisie actually loves cats and is used to living with one. Maisie pulls on the lead and wears a harness. Her recall is good if there are no distractions, but she can get confrontational with other dogs when off the lead and her recall fails. We hope her new home could continue her training as Maisie is bright and responds well to commands and enjoys treats as rewards – she can do a ‘spin’ trick very well. Maisie can be left alone for a few hours but does have some separation anxiety; she will bark and whine when initially left alone. Maisie likes to shadow people around the home but is also used to sleeping alone downstairs. She does not like her eyes or snout being touched. She is scared but tolerates going to the vets or groomers. She is okay with being bathed and brushed. Maisie is very good with children, although she can be scared if they approach too quickly. Due to this and her nerves around being touched in certain places, we recommend any children in her new home are aged 10 and over. Maisie is a good guard dog and will bark at unfamiliar sounds and deliveries etc to the front door – her current owners find her barking is reduced by blocking Maisie’s access to see the front door or front windows. Maisie would love to have her own garden to relax in and feel safe. She is scared of travelling in the car but will tolerate it and she prefers to sit on someone’s lap. She loves being up high, such as on chairs or sofas, and does not settle as well on the floor. Maisie is at her happiest when she is around her people, being part of their day, or sitting on a lap getting cuddles. She has so much unconditional love, loyalty and affection to give. Please apply if you have the experience and patience for shy little Maisie. © 2025 Dog Aid Scotland (SCIO Charity No. SC001918) Web Design by Techincal Services Scotland. Need a website? Enquire Here
