Adopt Maja

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Maja – a gentle senior seeks her last safe haven ❤️ The loving Maja lives currently in an animal shelter in Croatia and waits there for people who can once again show her how wonderful a home can be. Maja is a German Shepherd-Mix, born in 2016, and is approximately 10 years old. After her owner passed away, she came into the animal shelter. Especially sad is how quietly and uncomplainingly she has accepted her fate. It seems as though she has long learned to have no great expectations of life. Without protest, she adapted to new people, a new routine, and a foreign environment. But no dog should have to lose its home like that. Despite her age, Maja is physically fit and still very much enjoys going for walks. She walks nicely on the leash, meets people friendly and calmly, and has a very gentle nature overall. Maja is also compatible with cats. With other dogs, it depends on the chemistry. Male dogs she usually accepts well, but we would most like to see her in a home as an individual dog, so she can finally enjoy full attention and peace. She no longer has high expectations. A warm dog bed, loving people, and the feeling of belonging somewhere would be enough for her. After everything she has experienced, Maja has more than earned the right to spend her senior years in safety, security, and love.

About Maja

What life with Maja looks like

Maja is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
