Maja

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

MAJA is returning from adoption after 7 years!!!! Her owner is asking us for help in finding her a home 🙏🙏🙏🙏. Since last October, my health has deteriorated significantly. I’m struggling with severe anemia, hypertension, heart failure, and kidney failure, which has progressed to the point where I now need to start regular dialysis treatments. My treatment requires frequent stays away from home, and each month my ability to function declines further. Unfortunately, my dog handles being left alone very badly. When he’s home by himself, he immediately starts howling and scratching at the door, so he needs someone to be with him most of the time. I have neither family nor anyone who could take over his care during my treatment and subsequent dialysis-related hospital visits. This is an incredibly difficult decision for me. For the past 7 years, he’s been a member of my family, and I never imagined I’d find myself in a situation where I wouldn’t be able to provide him with proper care. I don’t want him to suffer because of my illness and my inability to meet his needs. Maja is 9 years old and weighs 7.5 kg. She’s calm, loves people, and walks nicely on a leash. She keeps the house clean. She enjoys children. Right now, she’s staying in Bydgoszcz, but there’s a possibility of transferring her to a new home.

About Maja

What life with Maja looks like

Maja is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
