Major

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Major has his own virtual godmother 🙂, who is Nikola Major – a calm, four-legged friend. Major is a dignified, about 9-year-old wolfhound who came to the animal shelter together with another dog. From the very beginning, he shows himself to be a balanced, calm and extremely composed dog. He is a true gentleman among four-legged animals – he does not seek noise or impose his presence. He likes to observe the world from a distance, but when he feels safe, he opens up and shows his gentle, loyal nature. Major would be the perfect companion for people who value quiet, lazy walks, shared moments of silence and that special understanding without words that can only arise between a person and a dog. It is a large dog, so it will best find itself in a house with a garden, where it will have space to stretch its paws, but also its own peaceful corner for rest. We do not yet know his attitude towards other animals or children – all of this is worth checking during the meeting. Major deserves a second chance and someone who will show him that life can still be good and full of warmth. If you are dreaming of a canine companion who does not need wild challenges, but rather stability and tenderness – maybe Major is waiting for you?

PL·Show original

About Major

What life with Major looks like

Major is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Dłużyna Górna in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Major, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Major?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Dłużyna Górna handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Major on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Major if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Dłużyna Górna will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Major already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Major isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Dłużyna Górna early rather than rehoming privately; they know Major and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
