Malaika

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Malaika has won her ticket to happiness! Her story: Malaika is a 3-year-old cat with an initially rather shy personality. But aren't it often the cats that are a bit shy at first the ones that become the most affectionate once their trust has been earned? We wish very much that Malaika finds a person here who is patient with her and gives her the time she needs to blossom. Who gives Malaika a chance? The kitten was caught after an elderly woman who fed Malaika in her garden noticed that she was having a very hard time outside on the street. Since then, she has recovered in the care of her foster home and is beginning to adapt to a safe and comfortable life. Malaika is ready to move into her first own home. She needs loving and patient owners who give her the time she needs to get used to her new environment. Despite her somewhat reserved nature, she is not aggressive and is beginning to get used to gentle and careful petting. Malaika needs the company of other cats to feel safe and comfortable, which is why she is not rehomed in single-cat arrangements. Whether she gets along with dogs has not been tested yet. However, we would recommend not taking the risk to not scare the poor Malaika. Additionally, she should only be rehomed in suitable apartment living conditions, as she has adapted very well to this and the life with a free roam poses many risks for more skittish cats. For her travel arrangements, Malaika, like all our cats and tomcats, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She has already been tested negative for FIV and FeLV and an EU pet passport is packed with her. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Malaika

What life with Malaika looks like

Malaika is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malaika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malaika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malaika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malaika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malaika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malaika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malaika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
