Malibu

Mixed Breed · Female · 3 years

“Energetic Snuggle Mouse” Gender: female, neutered Date of Birth: Apr. 2024 Gets along with dogs: yes Gets along with children in the same household: no Home sought: barrier-free home on the outskirts of town or in the countryside, with a garden The energetic, 2024-born mixed-breed female dog Malibu is people-friendly, but due to her age, she still likes to jump up to greet people very enthusiastically. She is also well-accustomed to other dogs. In her new home, she would like to get to know visitors first, so that they are then welcomed by her side (which is important for the potential herding dog aspect within her). The energetic snuggle mouse is already house-trained, goes nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, and is already trained to wear a harness. However, the loving female dog also shows a slightly independent (stubborn) side, which is sometimes evident on the leash, as she may want to go in a different direction than her human, causing her to sit or lie down and not continue walking. Malibu has had an OCD (growth-related fragmentary cartilage) operation. For the loving female dog, we are looking for a barrier-free home on the outskirts of town or in the countryside with a garden, as she prefers to be outdoors rather than indoors (where she mostly sleeps).

About Malibu

What life with Malibu looks like

Malibu is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malibu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malibu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malibu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malibu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malibu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malibu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malibu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
