Adopt Malo

Male · Senior · 10 years

Breed: Mix of German Wirehaired Pointer / Bracke Date of Birth: December 26, 2020 Size: 70cm, Weight: 32 kg Diseases/Allergies: No Compatibility with fellow animals: Malo is selective based on sympathy Compatibility with cats: We do not know, as it has not been tested Being alone: Difficult because not practiced, more than 4 hours after acclimatization Car travel: No problem at all, even a 6-hour trip to Denmark was very relaxed Leash behavior: Is okay Prey drive: Present as typical for the breed Reason for giving up: Separation of the owners Children in the new home should be at least 10 years old. Malo is a cuddle bear and gets along with most dogs. He knows the common commands, but there is still room for improvement. He needs further training and education! Since he had a very bad start in life (puppy in a small trailer, diet of white bread with milk!), he defends his resources. If necessary, even by growling. Malo is familiar with being led with a Halti and wearing a muzzle. Currently, Malo is being led with a flexi leash. He plays very roughly, so the dogs he plays with should be of similar size. Malo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and has just been dewormed. Anyone who can offer Malo a home, please contact: Joshua Willemsen (Owner): Ute Willemsen ("Hundeoma"): He currently lives in Peine. Gets along with other dogs. Gets along with other cats.

Malo kennt das Führen mit Halti und tragen eines Maulkorbes. Zurzeit wird Malo mit einer Flexileine geführt. Er spielt sehr ruppig, die Hunde zum spielen sollten seine Größe haben. About Malo

What life with Malo looks like

Malo is a senior dog waiting at Tierschutzverein OHZ e.V. in Osterholz-Scharmbeck.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein OHZ e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein OHZ e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein OHZ e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
