Mango

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Gender: female Birthday: July 2013 Castrated/Neutered: yes Weight: 13,3kg Back story: Mango was found wandering the streets. She was exhausted, neglected and was at high risk of being hit by a car. She was taken to the shelter in May 2026. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update August 2026: Mango came to the shelter in May. She is a senior girl who has been through quite a lot. She was found neglected and needed a haircut. One day, she also had difficulty urinating, so she was taken to the vet and two large bladder stones were discovered (click below). She underwent surgery to have them removed and recovered very well. Mango is a little shy and reserved, but she is a very calm and gentle senior lady. She would love a quiet, peaceful home where she can enjoy her golden years. Update May 2026: Mango on the streets:

About Mango

What life with Mango looks like

Mango is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mango, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mango?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mango on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mango if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mango already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mango isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mango and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
