Manuel

Male · Puppy · 10 months

Who sees Manuel and then hears that the little calf is only 10 months old (as of 12/2021), doesn't need a breed reference book to realize that our gentle giant is not a Chihuahua. Manuel was surrendered to the animal shelter. The people who gave our partners from Puntanimals the very friendly male dogs claimed they had rescued Manuel from the street. Later it turned out to be a lie - they had given away their own dog, too scared to admit they no longer wanted it... and Manuel was accordingly confused about where his people went off without him. It's probably actually better for him never to see these people again, because it quickly became clear that no one had taken care of Manuel's well-being so far. Although our tender prince was already in puberty when he came to the shelter, he had not received a single vaccination - and a disaster happened, because Manuel immediately got the feared parvovirus. It is impossible to count how many puppies animal welfare workers have watched die because the little ones could not be vaccinated in time against parvovirus and distemper, and our friends were very worried about their beloved heartbreaker. But Manuel is a real fighter and showed the silly disease that his will to live is unbeatable. Now the cheerful giant baby is completely healthy again and would love to spend the whole day cuddling with his friends. If you get a large, muscular dog like Manuel, you probably think you are getting a sports machine that wants to go for walks all day... well, um, Manuel dreams more of a career as a decorative sofa cushion or even as a garden - um, -giant, but he doesn't really like too much movement. Not that he wouldn't sometimes play with his buddies, but relaxation after the game is much more important for the extremely cuddly teddy bear. If you have a large garden, a comfortable, wide sofa or an XL cuddle basket, if you like to save heating costs in winter and enjoy the arrival of an oversized hot water bottle, if you can demonstrate a certain standing ability, if about 35kg of affection surprise you and you're not driving a compact car, then you should really consider whether you are not the perfect best friend for our Manuel - and he would certainly be delighted to make your acquaintance soon!

About Manuel

What life with Manuel looks like

Manuel is a small puppy/kitten dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Manuel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Manuel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Manuel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Manuel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Manuel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Manuel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Manuel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
